Coffee vs. White Teeth

By Dr. Ken Ho

Coffee is the new black! Quite literally. Every morning thousands of cups of coffee are consumed by the commuting masses as their make their way to work. The coffee cup has become the latest must have accessory. Try to remember a day when a morning train journey wasn't enhanced by a cup of caffeine-fueled goodness? It may taste fantastic and it certainly picks you up on those hard to motivate yourself mornings but the amount of coffee that people now consume on a daily basis is having an adverse effect on the colour of their teeth.

Just think off how many coffees you have drunk over years and you can only begin to imagine the effects that the nation's favourite caffeinated drink is doing to our teeth.

There are lots of factors, that when combined, cause coffee to stain teeth. Obviously the amount of coffee you drink has a massive affect, the dark brown colour of coffee just doesn't mix well with gleaming white enamel. There are, however, a few other factors that affect the way that teeth absorb the black stuff. The roughness of the enamel of your teeth is an obvious start as they are in direct contact with everything you eat and drink. The ammount of saliva you generate and its organic salt content can also have an effect.

Once white and shiny teeth become dull and stained, merely cleaning your teeth with a toothbrush will often not be enough. Even with regular brushing and flossing your daily long black will gradually cause damage and that's where Top Gum expertise comes in. Luckily with the advances in modern dentistry, white and shiny teeth can once again be the pride and joy of cappuccino drinkers. Tooth whitening is an easy and affordable process that lightens stained and discoloured teeth using Britesmile blue light technology. The process is also complete painless avoiding bleaching, UV, heat or laser activated methods of old. Just sit back and relax as we apply a whitening gel to your teeth that is then activated by a soothing blue light. There is nothing more to it and the results are spectacular.

The side effects of whitening your teeth are beneficial to say the least. Your oral hygiene will improve and bad breath will be a thing of the past. Gain the confidence that only a gleaming white smile can bring and order your next latte with confidence that your mouth will stay healthy and clean.
